North Train

North Train Network

The North Railway, known formerly as the North and South Railway (NSR), with a length of (2,750 km) while some of its parts are still under construction, it is the longest railway network in the world that European Traffic Management System level 2 (ETCS-L2), which is considered a unique signaling and telecommunication system in order to ensure higher reliability, and improve the level of safety and security for passengers, employees, and goods.

North Train Passenger

With a length of 1,250 Km, the passenger line originating in Riyadh runs northwest towards Al Haditha near the Jordanian border. The line passes through Majmaah, Qassim, Hail, Jouf and Qurayyat.

North Freight Train

With a length of 1,550 Km, the freight line runs from Al-Jalamid mine in the Northern Province and then passes by Jouf and Hail until a point referred to as ‘AlBaithah Junction, in Qassim province. From there the line heads east to the processing and export facilities in Ras AlKhair in the Eastern province on the coast of the Arabian Gulf.

North Train Fleet

The passenger trains consist of two locomotives and 8 passenger coaches. The fleet includes 4 day trains and 2 night trains, with a maximum capacity of 442 seats per train, including business and economy classes, as well as a fully equipped restaurant car.

The night trains provide sleeper cabins, high-quality amenities, and comfort facilities, accommodating up to 364 seats and beds. The night trains can also transport up to 20 cars in specially designed coaches between Riyadh and Qurayyat.

SAR operates and manages one of the longest freight fleets in the world, stretching up to 3 km, with a total capacity of 16,000 tons. The fleet consists of 61 locomotives and 523 carriages for transporting phosphate ore, 240 for bauxite, 562 for molten sulfur, and 589 for phosphoric acid (MGA).

East Train

East Train Network

The total length of the East Train Network is approximately 1,775 km. It extends from King Abdulaziz Port in Dammam and the city of Dammam (on the eastern coast of the Kingdom) to the capital, Riyadh, passing through Buqayq, Al-Hofuf, Haradh, and Al-Kharj.

East Passenger Train

The passenger line is a double track with a total length of 733 km, connecting Riyadh to Dammam via Hufuf and Abqaiq.

East Freight Train

The freight line is 566 km long, starting from King Abdulaziz Port in Dammam and ending in Riyadh, passing through Al-Ahsa, Buqayq, Al-Kharj, Haradh, and Al-Tawdhihiyah.

East Train Fleet

The East Train fleet consists of 11 passenger trains, classified into business class with 94 seats and economy class with 194 seats per train. All trains also include a restaurant coach and a prayer area.

The total number of freight carriages of different sizes and types is 2,596, including 858 double-stacked container cars, 948 standard container cars, 201 cement transport cars, 135 grain transport cars, 47 flatcars for vehicles, and 46 rock transport cars.

Haramain High-Speed Railway

The Haramain High-Speed Railway is considered one of the 10 fastest electric trains in the world, with a speed of 300 km/h, using advanced signaling and communication systems. The project comprises 35 trains, each consisting of 13 carriages and 417 seats, connecting Mecca to Medina, and passing through three stations: Jeddah, King Abdulaziz International Airport, and King Abdullah Economic City in Rabigh. The Haramain High-Speed Railway is a key component of the development plan and the expansion program of the Saudi Arabia Railway Network.

This project links the two main cities in the western region, meets the growing demand to serve increasing numbers of domestic and international pilgrims, and alleviates traffic congestion on the roads in Mecca, Medina, and Jeddah.
